To begin, an apology to Vegetarians. Today’s idea does you no favours.

The ever-wonderful Brighton Source have been out and about, led predominantly my their mouth and ahunger for meat-based products. Specifically: the burger.

There’s been a few claims of quite where in Brighton makes the best burger. From a late night Grubbs to the more BBQ-y end of town.

Today we recommend a visit to esteemed winner, Burger Off! (see what they did there?) Beyond one or two points for puns, they get the full ten in the burger department.

“What burgers they are, ticking off everything on our want list: chargrilled, homemade, thick, juicy. How they manage to make a burger this good for £3 we have no idea, but the guys at Burger Off! seem to have nailed everything, from not having too much bun to making sure there’s plenty of sauce in there.” says Brighton Source

This is one of those events that makes you realise all over again the worth and value of all things Brighton Festival. Performances that break the frame of performer and audience always help to alter our views on reality. This event promises to be no exception. Presented by The Basement, Marcia Farquhar invites you into an intimate world to listen to stories of split guitars, broken cricket bats and wooden spoons.

Welcomed aboard her boat with 5 other intrepid travelers you’ll be spun many tales offering you an unusual perspective on objects otherwise discarded and overlooked. Accompanied by lilting strains from Marcia’s sailor boy band this is an experience that promises to transform your perception of the world. I’m also told there will be fresh mackerel from the deep. Head over to Brighton Marina tonight for an entirely different 30 minutes in your life.

My Favourite Toy

Were you the Yoyo era, the Pogs era, the Polly Pocket era, Star Wars or Big Trak? Toys, it seems, have a suspicious hold over our lives. Not just for kids, but they have an odd hold over adults too, either hiding their old favourite stuffed toy in a drawer (or worse, some sort of glass cupboard) or remeniscing through toys with Toy Story, Toy Story 2, or 3, or Cars or…

You get the picture. Everyone has a favourite and not only do we become eerily attached, however grotty they get, but for kids they also inspire imaginations, our play and help us grow.

The Hove Museum celebrates this in their new attic of an exhibition. With a bit of help from children and locals, see everything from Transformers to dolls houses, teddy bears. Find the loved and the less loved: some you’ll remember and a few that might fox and confuse you.

Runs until 6th November.

Pighog have paired up with the talented John Davies to bring you another fine Fringe Festival performance. Delve into the depths of Britain’s favourite garden getaway with the ‘Shedman‘ as he takes you on a quirky journey that combines humorous poetry and charming story telling.

Davies first graced our fair city back in 2002 at the Booth Museum. After spending ten years travelling round the country in his shed, the writer and poet is back to premiere his quirky show on the Fringe. Join the Shedman on this fun and interactive expedition to discover the tradition of the shed while sharing hilarious anecdotes and thought-provoking poems.

@MikeSheer’s Undergod

This one’s for you Brighton irreverent comedy lovers. If you like your humour close to the edge, falling over the edge and sometimes just way down in the ravine Mike Sheer is sure to tickle your fancy, float your boat or whatever the appropriate phrase is these days. With no subject too taboo Mike has a new world of comedy to bring you. As part of the Fringe, (well what isn’t this month) he’ll be performing his “Undergod” routine (do you see what he did there…) to delight and lets face it probably offend a few people along the way. Apparently it’s “an hour of jokes and comedic rants, based around the theme of religious worship and its persecution.” So if you want to see how that goes down head along to the Caroline of Brunswick and gain some free entry in to the unique world of Mike Sheer’s brain. We’re promised he’ll also explore race, gender, death, love and genitals. It should be an entertaining evening…
